I have held various positions in the area of instituting and implementing independent living initiatives for people with disabilities. I have been passionately committed to the de-institutionalizing of people with disabilities and co-authored a curriculum which I and my colleague provided to residents of a nursing home. The curriculum focused on the residentās awareness and practice of empowerment skills and rights as individuals. I have also had several of my articles on topics including hierarchy of disability, independent living, and sexuality etc. published. One of my greatest honors was my involvement in the civil rights actions around the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. I, along with 100 other activists with disabilities, were repeatedly arrested for civil disobedience. Our actions led to expediting the passage of the ADA.
